Refurbished Machines

Refurbished 9Barista espresso machines are pre-owned machines or machines that have minor aesthetic defects that mean we cannot sell them as brand new. All machines are subject to a rigorous refurbishment process, that includes:

Full inspection
Ultrasonic cleaning and sterilisation process
Replacement of all o-rings, safety valve, valve pin and basket cap
Supply of new spare safety ring and boiler o-ring
Repackaging in a brand new box
Full quality check prior to shipping

Will my refurbished machine work properly?

Yes. Refurbished machines are fully functioning machines that are fully inspected and refurbished by our team of expert engineers and machine builders. They might have very slightly cosmetic blemishes.

Do refurbished machines come with a warranty?

Yes, they come with a one-year manufacturer's warranty.

What is the return policy on refurbished machines?

We offer a 30 day return policy. You can find out more about our return policy here. You will need to cover the cost of return shipping in order to return your machine.

Why are there no refurbished machines in stock?

Our refurbished machines are very popular, and we have a limited supply of them. As a result, they're often out of stock. If the machine you want is out of stock, you can check back at a later date, or consider a new machine.

Materials

The machine is made from die-cast and machined brass, with an electroless nickel plating, giving it both excellent resistance to acids, and good thermal uniformity.

PEI: the group insulator.
Stainless steel: basket and heat exchanger coil

There is no aluminium in the machine.

Custom Engraving

We offer custom laser engraving on all 9Barista machines. The engraving is available on the side of the group head. Engraved machines incur a 48 hour lead time versus non-engraved machines.

Text engraving

Three lines of centre aligned text engraved on the side of the 9Barista, just below the fins on the group head.

Each line can be up to 30 characters in length and we use the Helvetica font with an individual line height of approximately 3mm. Unfortunately we’re not able to engrave emojis.

Custom graphic or logo

A black on sliver graphic engraved on the side of your 9Barista, just below the fins on the group head. We are able to engrave simple custom images or logos, please contact us if you would like to know more.

Optional Extras

Precision Engineered Basket

A 53mm IMS precision engineered competition grade basket to fit the 9Barista espresso machine.

These baskets are precision engineered to ensure the holes are cone-shaped and polished, with no sharp edges. This reduces the chance of any of the holes becoming blocked during extraction, which increases the chance of producing a more consistent, delicious shot of espresso.

Each 9Barista comes with a conventional 53mm basket as standard and we find these baskets produce excellent espresso. Some customers do report an improvement with these precision ones, and we have noticed a difference as well. So we thought we would make them available for those who wanted to try them out.

If you select this option, you’ll receive both the standard basket and the IMS precision one.

Induction Plate

This plate has been specifically designed to work on induction cookers, and won't work on gas cookers. Please see the Heat transfer plate for use on most gas stoves.

Naked Portafilter

A naked portafilter for the 9Barista espresso machine.

The naked portafilter has a larger aperture than the standard portafilter, giving a full view of the extraction. The benefits are partly aesthetic, but the full view of the basket can also help identify channelling, which is helpful when identifying how to improve shots.

It's worth noting that using a naked portafilter does require some careful puck preparation. Without this you may experience 'spritzing', which is where very fine jets of coffee spit from the portafilter as a result of channelling. Careful distribution and tamping of the coffee prior to brewing resolve this.
